Veterans transforming mustangs.                        Mustangs transforming veterans. 

The Mustang Heritage Foundation (MHF) Veterans & Mustangs Program is an equine experiential opportunity aimed at helping active-duty military, veterans, and first-responders heal. The program uses the benefits and power of the wild American Mustang to provide a platform for change.

With the help of MHF, military veterans choose a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) mustang untouched by humans, and transform the horse in approximately 30 days into a gentled, adoptable equine companion while learning hands-on care. Participants will also learn farm management, equine husbandry, basic veterinary care, and equine behavior/psychology. This program takes place at MHF in Georgetown, Texas (5 days a week for approximately 30 days).

The Veterans & Mustangs Program is hands on and challenging. Working with mustangs is an experience that connects the participant with an animal in need. This program has successfully helped veterans lead more productive lives both on the job and at home. The Veterans & Mustangs Program is funded solely through donations. About the Mustang Heritage Foundation

THE PRIMARY MISSION of the Mustang Heritage Foundation is to create and promote programs and activities that provide information and education about wild horses and burros, elevate their image and desirability, provide opportunities to become involved in the wild horse and burro experience and secure adequate numbers of caring homes for excess horses. Working in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management the Mustang Heritage Foundation works to ensure healthy wild herds and rangelands through the placement of excess animals removed from public lands so future generations can enjoy this distinctive part of our American heritage.  As a 501 (C)(3), public, charitable, nonprofit organization, the Mustang Heritage Foundation works to identify and develop sources of private financial funding to further support the mission of the Foundation.
